Reimagining Juneteenth: The Story Behind the Theme
INVLA JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION
Educational Content
Event Content
INVLA's Juneteenth celebration needed its audience to understand the why behind this year's theme: "Reimagining Juneteenth." Researching the history of Juneteenth revealed a through-line: people had been reimagining their lives from the moment of emancipation. And, that call to a moment of reimagining is where the community now finds itself again.
We built a history explainer around that insight, tracing reimagining from emancipation to the present, so the audience entered the celebration understanding the theme as part of a living story, and why the day's announcement marked a new era of reimagining.

Seeing Our Own Thinking
A COMMUNITY DIALOGUE RECAP
Event Content
Video Storytelling
A community dialogue brought together nonprofit, academic, faith, business, and community leaders around a shared realization: they can do more together than any one organization can alone. The organizers needed a recap that showed what happened and invited people to the next convening. We brought participants' own words and colors from the day's whiteboard exercise into the highlight video, so attendees saw their own thinking reflected back. The organizers sent it to participants as recap of what happened and an invitation to sign up for the next event.

What They Don't Tell You
A PROMOTIONAL GUBERNATORIAL FORUM CONTENT SERIES
Awareness Campaign
Short-Form Video
Event Promotion
Two of five short short-form videos in a series.
As part of a broader promotional campaign for its annual Summit and Gubernatorial Candidate Forum, the Empowerment Congress wanted to re-engage Los Angeles residents, especially in South LA, in civic life, and to invite them to the forum. We developed "What They Don't Tell You," a series of short Instagram videos, each under a minute, that both informed and promoted. We created the concept, gave members of the prompts to speak from, and edited each piece. Together they took on the questions people rarely hear answered: Is voting enough? Does the governor's race really matter? Why are people disengaging? Why do civic spaces matter?

Short-Form Video
Video Storytelling
Behind-the-scenes Content
A regional arts & community arts center wanted to raise awareness of what was happening on its stages by bringing audiences behind the scenes. The creative team developed "Matters of the Arts," a pilot video magazine featuring production coverage and interviews with the casts of current shows. I created the concept, wrote, and directed the pilot, working with a videographer who shot and edited the footage.
